ISLAMABAD: The National Highway and Motorway Police (NHMP) have initiated an awareness campaign across various motorways and highways countrywide, aiming to reduce traffic accidents and enhance road safety.

According to an NHMP public relations officer speaking to a state news agency on Friday, the initiative was spurred by directives from NHMP Inspector General Salman Chohdary, to ensure road safety and minimize traffic incidents.

The NHMP’s campaign will concentrate on educating travellers about the perils of lane changing, the dangers associated with using mobile phones while driving, and the importance of wearing seat belts.

Furthermore, the campaign involves participation from specially-abled individuals who contribute to spreading awareness by holding placards containing messages tailored to road safety.

Former test cricketer Shoaib Muhammad has also thrown his weight behind the NHMP’s awareness endeavours, urging travellers to adopt safe driving practices and adhere to traffic laws.

The NHMP’s initiative has garnered widespread appreciation from commuters, with testimonials from travellers being documented and shared on social media platforms to extend the campaign’s reach.

NHMP officials are actively involved in educating drivers and passengers about traffic regulations, emphasizing the importance of seat belt usage, and underscoring the risks associated with mobile phone use while driving. They are also emphasizing the necessity of avoiding speeding and lane changing, which are common factors leading to accidents resulting in loss of life and permanent disabilities.

Road users have commended NHMP’s commitment to road safety and expressed optimism that such campaigns will continue to ensure the safety and well-being of all travellers.  —APP
