Nicaragua’s Sheynnis Palacios Makes History, Crowned Miss Universe 2023

EL SALVADOR: In a historic moment for Nicaragua, Sheynnis Palacios, 23, emerged as the winner of the Miss Universe 2023 pageant, hosted this year in El Salvador. This victory marks the first time a contestant from Nicaragua has claimed the prestigious title, adding a special significance to the 72nd edition of the pageant.

Palacios received the coveted crown and sash from her predecessor, R’Bonney Gabriel of the United States, in a ceremony attended by El Salvador’s President Nayib Bukele. The newly renovated Adolfo Pineda National Gymnasium in the capital, San Salvador, served as the backdrop for the competition.

A total of 84 contestants participated in a week of rigorous competitions, showcasing their poise in swimsuits, elegance in evening gowns, and cultural representation in traditional dresses. Thailand’s Anntonia Porsild and Australia’s Moraya Wilson secured the second and third positions, respectively.

During the final Q&A session, Palacios conveyed her main qualities as humility and gratitude for little things. She stressed the importance of equal pay regardless of gender, advocating for a world where women can “work in any area.” In her empowering words, she emphasized, “There is no limit for women.”

The gala event concluded with the announcement that the next edition of Miss Universe will take place in Mexico, adding anticipation and excitement for the upcoming pageant.
