Nigerian Armed Forces Remembrance Day Celebrated in Islamabad

ISLAMABAD: The Defence Adviser, Brigadier General Oseni Omoh Braimah, along with his spouse, hosted a reception in Islamabad to commemorate the Nigerian Armed Forces Remembrance Day. Vice Admiral Abid Hameed Hilal-e-Imtiaz (Military), the Deputy Chief of Naval Staff (Material), attended as the chief guest.

The event was graced by high commissioners, ambassadors, senior military officers of the Pakistan Armed Forces, defence advisers, attachés, and Charge d’Affaires from various countries, including Babagana Ahmadu from the High Commission of the Federal Republic of Nigeria in Islamabad, and acting Dean of the diplomatic corps & Ambassador of Morocco Mohamed Karmoune.

Brigadier General Oseni Omoh Braimah highlighted the significance of the Nigerian Armed Forces in building a peaceful and prosperous nation. He expressed gratitude for the support and collaboration with various friendly countries, with special mention of Pakistan Armed Forces as a key ally. The celebration aimed to pay tribute to fallen comrades, acknowledge the sacrifices made during world wars and UN missions, and project the Nigerian Armed Forces as instruments of regional stability, national pride, and development.

General Braimah emphasized the global collaboration in fighting terrorism, thanking Pakistan for its unflinching support. The event marked the annual observation of the Nigerian Armed Forces Remembrance Day on January 15, commemorating the end of the Nigerian civil war and honoring veterans who contributed to safeguarding Nigeria and promoting global peace.

The Defence Adviser also highlighted Pakistan’s partnership with the Armed Forces of Nigeria in areas such as experience sharing, training, exercises, equipment maintenance, and the induction of advanced platforms like the Super Mushshak trainer aircraft and JF 17 Thunder Fighter. He expressed gratitude to various countries for their critical support, assisting Nigeria in transforming and innovating to address evolving security challenges.
