KARACHI: “There is no adequate system and apparatus available to extinguish fires in Karachi’s buildings,” said Caretaker Chief Minister Sindh Justice (Retd) Maqbool Baqar on Thursday.

CM Sindh distributed snorkels that are aimed at enhancing fire safety measures in high-rise buildings.

Out of the eight snorkels, Chief Minister Justice (Retd) Maqbool Baqar handed over 3 snorkels to Mayor Murtaza Wahab of Karachi. The remaining snorkels were provided to mayors of Sukkur, Larkana, Hyderabad, Nawabshah, and Mirpur Khas.

Expressing his concerns, Chief Minister Baqar emphasized the urgent need for effective firefighting strategies to prevent the entrapment of urban residents during sudden fire incidents, leading to potential loss of life and property.

Furthermore, he announced the implementation of a Fire Safety Audit by the Sindh government. This audit aims to identify and address shortcomings in buildings, making them safer for occupants. The government is actively investing in the purchase of firefighting machinery, including fire trucks and equipment.

CM Sindh assured that the latest firefighting equipment from Indonesia would be readily available at any location. Acknowledging the insufficiency of the current number of firefighting machines for Karachi and other cities, he stressed the importance of steps to ensure the safety of residents in handling sudden incidents.

He sent his congratulations to all mayors who received keys to the firefighting machines. He emphasized that this initiative is part of the government’s commitment to ensuring the safety and security of the people of the province.
