PYONGYANG: North Korea has joined the chorus of international criticism against the United States for vetoing a UN Security Council resolution that called for an immediate ceasefire in the Gaza Strip.

The ceasefire resolution, voted on Friday, failed to pass as the US, one of the five veto-wielding powers, exercised its veto right.

Kim Son-kyong, North Korea’s vice foreign minister for international organizations, denounced the US as a “stumbling block” to international peace and stability. In an official statement, Kim expressed regret over the US decision, describing it as a disregard for the international community’s unanimous desire for peace in the Middle East.

North Korea’s vice foreign minister accused the US of abusing its veto power, supporting the ongoing Israeli brutalities in the besieged Palestinian territory.
