RIYADH: The Independent Permanent Human Rights Commission of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation has denounced what it describes as dual standards in applying human rights norms internationally in light of the Israeli attack on Gaza, Arab media reported on Sunday.

The IPHRC expressed its concerns following joining worldwide events to mark Human Rights Day 2023 on December 10, the 75th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

The commission stated that following more than two months of Israeli aggression in Gaza, and more than 17,000 civilian casualties, the international community is failing in its responsibility to act on credible accounts of war crimes being committed by Israeli forces. The commission urged the world to intervene for an urgent and permanent truce in the Gaza Strip.

The IPHRC described Israeli orders for civilian population in the Gaza Strip to evacuate without basic necessities as a violation of global humanitarian law.  The commission expressed concern regarding human rights violations affecting millions across the world, and quoted the deteriorating conditions for Rohingya Muslims in Myanmar, persistent discrimination and violence against Muslims in India, and the continued dilemma of Palestinian people and Kashmiri people under cruel regimes.

The IPHRC highlighted the need for equitable development and technological equality for OIC member nations and other developing countries, and asked the world to prioritize bridging the technological divide, adding that developing nations face disparities in accessing cutting-edge technologies.
