OIC-CERT Organizes Cybersecurity Roundtable at MWC 2024

ISLAMABAD: The Organization of the Islamic Cooperation-Computer Emergency Response Teams held a high-level industry roundtable to discuss the evolving international cybersecurity landscape and challenges at the Mobile World Congress.

Under the title ‘Instilling Digital Trust and Resilience’, the event gathered thirteen members and organizations from the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Indonesia, Oman, Malaysia, Jordan, Nigeria, Uzbekistan, Azerbaijan, Brunei, Egypt, Bangladesh, the OIC Committee on Scientific and Technological Cooperation based in Pakistan, said a press release on Sunday.

OIC-CERT Participating Members Finalize Action Plans

In the event, the OIC-CERT participating members finalized action plans and policies such as the OIC-CERT 5G Working Group and Cloud Security Working Group, Cloud Security Framework, and 5G security. The creation of a new potential working group for AI security and supply chain security also came under discussion.

Eng. Badar Ali Said Al Salehi, Chair of the OIC-CERT, and Director General, Oman National CERT, delivered the opening address, saying that a leading cybersecurity platform, OIC-CERT is committed to making cyberspace safe.

He said that we hosted this roundtable to gather some of the world’s leading cybersecurity experts to help build digital trust and boost cyber resilience. We strongly believe that we will be successful in mitigating cyber threats through international collaboration.

The OIC-CERT event featured several top-level speakers that shed light on important topics.

Coordinator General COMSTECH Professor Dr. Muhammad Iqbal Choudhary delivered a keynote address, while Huawei Global Cybersecurity and Privacy Protection Officer Sean Yang hosted a session on the need to boost digital trust and resilience

Salma Hafez, Head of the National Efforts Coordination Department, EG-CERT from Egypt in her address said that by aligning interests and leveraging collective expertise, organizations can effectively harness the power of their stakeholders to propel digital transformation and boost resilience in an increasingly volatile and interconnected world.

Senior Information Security Analyst, CERT from UAE Abdalla Mohamed Alzarooni led a session on the actions and steps for instilling digital trust and resilience.

He said that organizations risk falling behind competitors and failing to exploit new opportunities without deliberate actions. He also said that organizations can proactively enhance digital thrust and resilience by taking strategic measures and implementing rigorous measurement practices, ensuring long-term success in an ever-evolving digital landscape.
