BANJUL: The declaration adopted at the 15th Islamic Summit Conference stressed to protect the rights for women and girls in Afghanistan, including rights to employment and education.

The two-day conference, organized by the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), saw the first appearance of a Taliban delegation at this international event in two years.

The declaration emphasized full respect for the human rights of the people of Afghanistan.

The participants of the conference stressed the significance of full respect for the human rights of all Afghans and the need to protect the basic rights of Afghan girls and women, especially the right to education and employment. They also called for more communication with the interim Afghan setup regarding these issues.

Additionally, they emphasized the need for more efforts to address the challenges related to ethnic groups, drugs, terrorism, and social issues to ensure inclusive governance and sustainable peace and stability in Afghanistan.

According to the declaration, representatives from Muslim states reiterated their support for a peaceful, prosperous, stable, and inclusive Afghanistan. They stressed the need to tackle humanitarian, ethnic, security, human rights, terrorism, narcotics, and social challenges faced by the people of Afghanistan.

The declaration urged the Taliban to soften their repressive policies regarding women through attempts to engage at global meetings.

The Taliban early Sunday said that its delegation, led by the spokesman of the Foreign Ministry, participated in the OIC’s session.
