Oil Tanker Owners End Strike After Govt’s Assurance

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Oil Tankers Contractors Association has announced to end of its strike after 0the government invited the office bearers for talks, private television channels reported on Tuesday.

According to details, leaders and owners from the association will meet the officials from the incumbent government and Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) tomorrow in Islamabad to discuss the matter and reach some solution.

The office bearers from the association are of the view that they have started to restore fuel supply keeping in mind the issues being faced by the public however they added that they were optimistic the government would address their issues after providing assurance to them.

Demands of the Oil Tanker Association

The association has demanded the government enhance the fares by 100 percent for local routes and 50 percent for long routes due to the recent increase in transportation charges. The oil tanker owners also demanded a share in the White Oil Pipeline (WOP) along with granting permission for allowing old vehicles for oil transportation.

A day earlier, there were reports of acute fuel shortage in the country as the oil tankers association went on strike to demand a hike in fares after the recent increase in petroleum prices.

Oil Companies Advisory Council (OCAC) spokesperson said in a statement that the loading of oil tankers was disconnected at Port Qasim’s Korangi-Keamari Terminal followed by the issue of supply operation on Janglot, Sahala, and Shikarpur oil depots. Later, the association initiated protests in Karachi where a large number of oil tankers were parked in different areas of the metropolitan city.

Meanwhile, the President of the association Abidullah Afridi announced the suspension of the supply operations and presented the demands to the government.
