WASHINGTON: OpenAI Chief Executive Officer Sam Altman is scheduled to meet with Republican U.S. House of Representatives Speaker Mike Johnson on Capitol Hill on Thursday, Axios reported. Johnson’s office and OpenAI did not issue any statement about the meeting between the two sides.
Initially established as an open-source nonprofit, OpenAI, supported by Microsoft and the creator of ChatGPT, underwent a structural shift to a capped-profit model in 2019 under co-founder Altman. In late November, Altman disclosed that Microsoft would assume a non-voting, observer role on the company’s board.

Despite Biden administration’s efforts to advocate for AI regulation, progress has been limited, given the Republican control in the House and Democratic majority in the Senate.
