NEW YORK: In a significant update, OpenAI has made the human-like voice feature of ChatGPT available to all regular users on both iOS and Android devices. Initially launched in September, the voice feature was limited to Plus and Enterprise users until this recent expansion, enhancing accessibility and providing a broader audience with the opportunity to engage with ChatGPT in voice mode.

To activate the voice feature, users can now find a headphone icon at the bottom right of the ChatGPT screen. Clicking on this icon prompts users to choose from five distinct voice options: Juniper, Ember, Breeze, Cove, and Sky, representing a range from feminine to masculine. Users have the flexibility to switch between these options at any time.

The visual interaction with the voice assistant is designed to be engaging. Upon processing information, a grey circle appears in the center, transforming into a white cloud-like image, enhancing the user experience.

The voice assistant, exemplified by options like Sky with a raspy voice, introduces a more human-like element by incorporating pauses during responses, creating a conversational and natural experience.

While this update is a leap forward in making AI interactions more natural, some users have reported occasional prompts for assistance even during moments of silence, and there have been observations regarding the lack of a clear mechanism to turn off the application.

However, the option to keep the app active in the background while exiting enhances multitasking possibilities, accommodating users engaged in other activities.
