Oscar-winner Singer Irene Cara dies at 63

WASHINGTON: Irene Cara, an Oscar-winning star has died at age of 63, media reported on Saturday.

The actress recorded title tracks to the blockbuster films Fame and Flashdance. She sang the title track of the 1980s movie Fame which follows the lives of students at an arts high school in New York City.

In the film, Irene Cara played Coco Hernandez, a character written for her following she was initially cast as a dancer in the film. She was nominated for a Grammy award for her work. The actress was trained as a kid in singing, music, and dance and she also appeared on TV and on stage.

Irene Cara also appeared in DC Cab and City Heat films and on various television shows. She also performed in theater and musicals.

Media reported that she was found deceased at her home in Florida while the cause of death was unknown at this point. – APP
