Over 35,405 Landless Farmers Provided Interest-free Loans Under Kissan Package

ISLAMABAD: The government of Pakistan has provided 3,830.9 million rupees in interest-free loans under the Kissan Package to landless farmers, badly affected by the torrential rains and flash floods during last year.

By June 2023, loans were provided to nearly 35,405 landless farmers in order to revive the agriculture field in flood-affected areas in the country, said an official in the Ministry of National Food Security and Research.

The official said that the federal government has introduced a multi-billion rupee Kissan Package to revive the agriculture field and increase the per-acre output of major and minor crops, in a bid to achieve sustainable agricultural growth and economic development, according to APP.

Package for Young Farmers

Moreover, the government disbursed 12,817 million rupees under Prime Minister Youth Business and Agriculture Scheme (PMYBAS) to 23,857 farmers, which provides financial help and support to young farmers in agriculture entrepreneurship.

He said that recognizing the necessity of farm mechanization, the government had provided 1,056 million rupees to 507 farmers under the markup and risk scheme.

The official added that the initiative aimed to boost productivity and efficiency in the sector of agriculture.

Additionally, the State Bank of Pakistan’s (SBP) Refinancing Facility for Modernization of SMEs reserved 5.414 billion rupees to include agro-SMEs in the SME modernization scheme. Out of this amount, 2.953 billion rupees has been received by agro-based SMEs, resulting in the overall development of agricultural small and medium-sized enterprises.
