Pakistan Bans New Year Celebrations in Solidarity with Palestine

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Caretaker Prime Minister Anwarul Haq Kakar on Thursday announced a complete ban on all types of events in connection with the New Year celebrations to express solidarity with the Palestinian people.

The Prime Minister made the announcement in a brief address to the nation on Thursday evening. He said that the Muslim community across the world was deeply shattered by the relentless aerial bombardment and ground invasion by Israel against Palestinian people, particularly the children. He further said that in the current dismal circumstances, the Pakistani nation remained in a state of anger and distress and would avoid any celebration on the occasion of the new year.

The Prime Minister said that Israel’s continued bombardment and invasion of the land of Palestine had killed over 21,000 people, mostly women and children, while more than 55,000 were wounded, as per information provided by the health ministry in Gaza.

Solidarity With Brothers, Sisters in Palestine

The Prime Minister said that “Keeping in mind the relevant painful situation in Palestine and to show solidarity with the brothers and sisters in Palestine there would be a complete ban by the government on holding any kind of event for New Year.

The Prime Minister also requested the masses to show full solidarity with the Palestinian brothers and sisters and exhibit sobriety and humility at the New Year.

Kakar further said Pakistan left no stone unturned to convey the message and the current plight of Palestine to the world and would continue to support the cause of Palestine in the future.

The Prime Minister also apprised that Pakistan had dispatched two aid packages to the affected land while a third package would be sent soon. Meanwhile, the government was in regular contact with the officials in Jordan and Egypt to provide timely aid to the people of Palestine and to help the injured in a safe evacuation from Gaza.
