Pakistan, Belarus Agree to Boost Trade and Investment Relations

ISLAMABAD: Ambassador Andrei Metelitsa of the Republic of Belarus to Pakistan called on Federal Minister for Economic Affairs Ahad Khan Cheema on Tuesday.

During the meeting, he expressed a strong interest in fortifying bilateral relations and maximizing trade and investment opportunities between the two countries.

In the discussion, Ambassador Metelitsa emphasized that the current level of trade between Belarus and Pakistan falls below their true potential and advocated for increasing it through both Government-to-Government (G2G) and Business-to-Business (B2B) interactions. He also underscored the importance of streamlining banking procedures and organizing trade exhibitions to further boost trade and investment relations.

The meeting also covered matters of mutual interest, including the commitments made during the 6th Session of the Pakistan-Belarus Joint Ministerial Commission held in January 2023 in Minsk, Belarus.

Minister Ahad Khan Cheema highlighted the cordial and friendly relationship between Pakistan and Belarus, affirming their commitment to strengthening bilateral ties. He praised the successful outcomes of the 6th Session of the Pakistan-Belarus Joint Ministerial Commission, which paved the way for enhanced cooperation in various sectors such as trade, agriculture, health, science & technology, tourism, and investment in the industrial sector.

Minister Cheema emphasized Pakistan’s potential for utilizing agricultural machinery like tractors and harvesters, especially through joint ventures with local firms. He also applauded the government’s efforts in promoting trade, commerce, and agricultural development.

Furthermore, Minister Cheema discussed Pakistan’s potential to export textile, agricultural products, and surgical equipment to Belarus while seeking opportunities for joint ventures in heavy machinery and plants with Belarusian expertise.

Both parties reiterated their commitment to strengthening economic cooperation through the platform of the Pak-Belarus Joint Ministerial Commission.
