ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has commenced the delivery of fresh fruits to Russia via land routes, marking a major milestone in bilateral economic relations.

The National Logistics Cell (NLC) orchestrated the transportation, with a convoy of vehicles embarking from Sargodha carrying a consignment of oranges destined for Russia.

A total of 16 vehicles covered a remarkable distance of 6,000 kilometres, traversing through multiple countries to reach their final destinations.

Upon arrival, 14 vehicles docked at Darbant, Russia, while the remaining two reached Grozny. This successful entry into Russian territory through three countries signifies a notable achievement in cross-border logistics.

The launch of the NLC referral service heralds a pivotal advancement for Pakistan’s agriculture sector, addressing the longstanding challenge of post-harvest losses. With approximately 40% of fresh agricultural produce spoiling due to inadequate cold chain facilities, the utilization of reefer services ensures the preservation of fruits during transit, maintaining their freshness and quality.

To commemorate this historic feat, a reception ceremony was organized at Darbant, attended by esteemed dignitaries including representatives from the International Road Transport Union, Russian Customs officials, Pakistani embassy officials, and members of the business community. The initiative received accolades from Russian authorities, highlighting its significance in fostering mutual trade relations between Pakistan and Russia.

This endeavour adds to the NLC’s track record of facilitating trade across borders, having previously delivered bananas, meat, and seafood to countries including Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, and China. Such initiatives not only bolster economic ties but also reinforce Pakistan’s position as a reliable partner in the global trade arena.
