ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has withdrawn the victory notification for Awn Chaudhry, the candidate from the Istehkam-e-Pakistan Party, following the general elections held on February 8.

While ECP results initially showed Chaudhry securing 172,576 votes compared to Barrister Raja’s 159,024 votes in the constituency, the victory notification for Awn Chaudhry was challenged by Salman Akram Raja, an independent candidate backed by PTI.

The electoral body’s director-general Law informed the Islamabad High Court (IHC) Chief Justice Aamir Farooq that ECP has withdrawn the victory notification of Awn Chaudhry.

ECP will decide after hearing Salman Akram Raja’s pending application,” Law DG said. After the DG Law responded, the court disposed of the application of Salman Akram Raja.

Earlier, the Lahore High Court (LHC) had prohibited the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) from releasing the election result of the National Assembly constituency (NA-128) in Lahore, where PTI-backed independent candidate Salman Akram Raja was contesting against IPP candidate Awn Chaudhry.
