Pakistan Elections: Parties Race to Pursue Voters Especially Youth

ISLAMABAD: Election canvassing campaign of all political parties and independent candidates continues across Pakistan, local and international media reported on Saturday.

All major political parties and independent candidates are holding public gatherings and candidates are participating in corner meetings to interact with the voters.

The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has established ninety thousand six hundred seventy-five polling stations for the general elections in the South Asian country.

According to official media of these, forty-one thousand four hundred three are combined polling stations while twenty-five thousand three hundred twenty are for men and twenty-three thousand nine hundred fifty-two for female voters.

The total number of polling stations in Punjab province of Pakistan is fifty thousand nine hundred forty-four, Sindh nineteen thousand and six, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa fifteen thousand six hundred ninety-seven and Balochistan five thousand twenty-eight.

Over one hundred and twenty million eligible voters are all set to cast vote for National Assembly and four Provincial Assemblies on February 8. A total of 5,121 candidates are contesting for the National Assembly seats.  These include 4,807 men, 312 women and two trans-genders.

For the four provincial assemblies, 12,695 candidates are in the race including 12,123 men, 570 female and two trans-genders. The elections will be held on two hundred and sixty-six general seats of National Assembly and five hundred and ninety-three general seats of four provincial assemblies in Pakistan.

According to official data released by the Election Commission of Pakistan, the number of young voters has climbed to 56.86 million from 46.43 million in 2018, positioning it to play a main role in the making of the new government in Pakistan. As per reports, around 23.51 million voters are age 18-25 years, while 33.34 million voters are age 26-35. Political parties including opposition are trying their best to convince the youth to vote them during the general elections that to be held on February 8.

According to the official social media account of the Election Commission of Pakistan, the media should also play a responsible role during the election to prevent fake news in the country.

The ECP also issued its contact numbers to immediately address the problems of the voters during the election.

Pakistan’s Caretaker Interior Minister, Dr. Gohar Ejaz said that the General Elections 2024 would be held on February 8 as per the schedule, saying that the government will ensure all possible measures for holding free, fair, and peaceful elections in the country.
