ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s wheat output for the current season is projected to exceed 28.86 million tons, bolstering efforts for sustainable agriculture and economic development.

Ample water availability and record planting areas point towards a strong harvest in 2024-25, according to Food Security Commissioner Imtiaz Ahmad Gopang.

Favorable water supply reported by IRSA and increased sowing area (7.5% compared to last year) indicate potential for a high yield.

Wheat production is forecast at 23.50 million tons in Punjab and 3.3 million tons in Sindh, with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan expected to contribute 1.474 million and 21.274 million tons respectively.

Wheat sowing surpassed targets by 7% nationally, driven by government incentives and exceeding set goals in all provinces.

Punjab, the major producer, achieved 109% of its target area due to a well-coordinated campaign.

Sindh exceeded its target by 6.66%, boosted by post-flood moisture and better profitability compared to oilseeds.

Growing conditions and access to fertilizers, especially essential during crucial development and maturation stages (March-April), will impact final output. Effective management of these variables is crucial for realizing the projected harvest.

A strong wheat harvest will contribute to food security by meeting local demands and maintaining strategic reserves.

This achievement aligns with the government’s vision for sustainable agriculture and economic growth.
