ISLAMABAD: Caretaker Minister for Foreign Affairs, Jalil Abbas Jilani, affirmed Pakistan’s steadfast support for a two-state solution to address the longstanding Palestine issue.
The minister emphasized the paramount importance of resolving the matter in alignment with the aspirations of the Palestinian people.
This statement came in response to concerns raised by PPPP Senator Mian Raza Rabbani during a Senate session regarding a Press release issued by the President Secretariat on the Palestine issue, which was subsequently contradicted.
Minister Jilani clarified that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs had no involvement in the initial statement issued by the President Secretariat. While acknowledging being unaware of the context in which the statement was made, he reiterated Pakistan’s unwavering stance in favor of a two-state resolution for the Palestinian issue.
The minister underscored the critical need for Israel to withdraw to its pre-1967 borders, emphasizing that the resolution should adhere to UN Resolution 242 and OIC resolutions.
In addressing the sequence of events, Minister Jilani highlighted that a clarification was promptly issued after the initial statement. This clarification was communicated to the OIC Secretariat and various UN institutions. The minister noted that the clarification received broad dissemination through both domestic and international media channels.
This reaffirmation of Pakistan’s commitment to a two-state solution underscores the nation’s consistent advocacy for the rights and self-determination of the Palestinian people on the global stage.
