Pakistan Government Committed to Providing Essential Commodities at Low Prices: Minister

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Caretaker Minister for Interior and Commerce, Gohar Ejaz, said on Wednesday that providing essential commodities to the people at low prices is among the top priorities of the government.

He made these remarks while presiding over a meeting of the sugar advisory board in Islamabad. The moot reviewed the position of sugar stocks in Pakistan.

Gohar Ejaz said that a record production of sugarcane is expected for the second consecutive year in 2024, with its production likely to hit 6.5 million tons. He also said there are abundant sugar reserves in the country.

Government to Take Strict Action Against Tax Evaders

Gohar Ejaz categorically stated that action will be taken against tax evaders in the sugar industry, stressing that it is the government’s duty to protect the interests of sugarcane growers.
