Pakistan Govt to Purchase 1.8 Million Tons of Wheat: PM Shehbaz

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Saturday said that the centre will purchase 1.8 million metric tons of wheat through the Pakistan Agricultural Storage and Services Corporation (PASSCO).
As per details, the premier chaired a meeting in Lahore, the capital of Punjab, on wheat procurement and challenges faced by the farmers in obtaining gunny bags.
Emphasizing the paramount importance of safeguarding the economic welfare of farmers, Shehbaz Sharif assured that no compromises would be made in this regard, especially considering the bountiful wheat harvest this year.
Instructing officials to personally supervise wheat procurement operations, Sharif underscored the need for proactive measures to address farmers’ concerns.
The premier also established a National Food Security Committee tasked with ensuring farmers’ facilitation and promptly addressing any issues related to wheat procurement. This committee has been mandated to implement measures within a four-day timeframe to protect farmers’ interests.
The meeting, attended by Federal Ministers Rana Tanveer Hussain, Attaullah Tarrar, and other pertinent officials, saw comprehensive discussions on effective wheat procurement strategies.
