ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has commended the Iraqi government for its efforts in facilitating Pakistani pilgrims during their visits to holy sites in Iraq.

During his recent trip to Iraq, Pakistan Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah had requested to the Iraqi government for special arrangements to address the challenges faced by Pakistani pilgrims during their visits to sacred places.

In response to his appeal, the Iraqi government has taken significant measures to enhance the experience for Pakistani pilgrims.

In accordance with the minister’s request, Iraq has also increased the quota for Pakistani pilgrims to one hundred thousand and extended the duration of the pilgrims’ visa to 30 days, which was previously limited to 15 days and required payment. Additionally, Pakistani pilgrims will now have the convenience of entering Iraq through Baghdad and Al-Najaf Airports, as well as Al-Saib port, after later lifted restrictions on entry and exit from these points of entry.

Both countries have also agreed to take stringent actions against tour operators who overcharge pilgrims and have committed to regulating tourism companies to ensure enhanced services for visitors. To address visa-related issues, the Pakistani embassy in Iraq will oversee the management of overstaying visa concerns, while Pakistani investors will be granted electronic visas for smoother travel arrangements.

Pakistan Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah thanked the Iraqi government for their cooperation in implementing these special arrangements, emphasizing that these steps will serve to strengthen the bilateral relations between the two countries.
