Pakistan Minister Holds High-Level Talks with WB Vice President

ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Economic Affairs, Ahad Khan Cheema has held a meeting with Martin Raiser, the South Asia Regional Vice President (SARVP) of the World Bank and discussed a range of areas related to Pakistan’s economic growth and development.

During the meeting, Cheema extended a warm welcome to Vice President Raiser and expressed gratitude for the continuous support and assistance provided by the World Bank to Pakistan. He reiterated that Pakistan’s unwavering commitment to implementing pivotal reforms across key sectors to promote sustainable economic growth.

He also emphasized ongoing efforts to expedite project implementation and address blocks hindering progress. Furthermore, the Minister urged the World Bank to explore innovative financing options and encourage private sector participation, with backing from the International Finance Corporation (IFC).

In response, Vice President Raiser commended the Government of Pakistan for its dedication to steering the country towards economic recovery. He expressed satisfaction with the progress made on various sectors socio-economic reforms, expressed confidence in their potential to usher in a more prosperous future for the people of Pakistan. The Vice President pledged to deepen the partnership between the World Bank and the Government of Pakistan, particularly in crucial areas such as human capital, climate change, agriculture, energy, water, and employment opportunities.

While concluding, Minister Cheema expressed gratitude to Vice President Raiser and his team for their visit, reaffirming Pakistan’s commitment to providing full support at all government levels to ensure the success of ongoing and future developmental projects.
