RAWALPINDI: Pakistan Navy on Thursday handed over eight Iranian fishermen, whom it had previously rescued in a humanitarian operation, to Iranian officials, a statement from the military’s media wing ISPR said.

The rescue mission occurred in March when a distress call was received by the Pakistan Navy ship, Yarmook, alerting them to a fire-stricken boat in the open sea. Responding swiftly, the Yarmook conducted a successful rescue operation, saving all eight fishermen and extinguishing the fire.

“The Pakistan Navy has transferred eight rescued Iranian fishermen to the diplomatic authorities of Iran,” stated the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the military’s media wing.

“The prompt and successful rescue operation is a practical example of Pakistan Navy’s ability to deal with all kinds of situations at sea.”

Earlier in February, the Pakistan Navy also rescued nine Indian seamen who were stranded aboard a disabled tugboat en route to Sharjah.
