ISLAMABAD: Moon will block out the sun tomorrow (Thursday), causing the first solar eclipse of 2023 in what will be dubbed a “hybrid solar eclipse”.

The space activity will offer a breathtaking sight to people across the globe as the hybrid solar eclipse shifts to an annular (ring-shaped) from a total solar eclipse as the shadow of the moon reflects on the Earth.

Eclipses are quite rare occurrences that emerge when the moon, earth and sun align in a cosmic setting, casting their shadow or blocking sunlight. Nonetheless, the phenomenon of ‘hybrid solar eclipses’ is extremely uncommon, and occurs just a few times in a century.

The phenomenon, however, will not be visible in Pakistan. The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has also confirmed the expected sighting of the eclipse.

A brief statement by the Pakistan Meteorological Department said that the eclipse will start early Thursday morning and end right before 12 pm on April 20 as per Pakistan Standard Time (PST), but it will not be visible anywhere in Pakistan.

According to the PMD, some parts of the world will see the rare solar eclipse completely and some partially. The phenomenon will be visible from parts of eastern and southern Asia, Antarctica and Australia, and over the Pacific Ocean and the Indian Ocean.
