Pakistan: People Ask New Government to Invest on Youth

ISLAMABAD: Citizens expressed mix reaction over the formation of the new government in Pakistan and asked the new Prime Minister to take steps to overcome issues of public interest. Citizens said that it will be a test case for the new set up to address issues of economy, unemployment and price hike in the South Asian country.

Ahmad Ali, a school teacher in Islamabad told We News that issues of public especially load shedding, sky rocketing and unemployment should be the top priorities of the newly elected government in the country. He was of the view that long term steps should be taken to serve the society rather than taking short term measures. He said that the new generation should be equipped with new skills and latest technology to deal the challenges of the current age. He further said that the government should spend more and more on youth and education for the bright future of Pakistan.

Talking to We News, Javid Akhtar Malik, who is working in a private firm, said that the government should give more and more focus to the country’s economy. He said that many private sectors organizations did not follow the law and exploit labors, therefore, the new government should take steps to implement the laws regarding wages of the labors in private firms.

Muhammad Shoaib, who is studying in a University in Karachi, expressed hope that the new government would spend more on youth for their bright future. He said that the new government should play a role of facilitator to explore new venues for the students especially in research. He urged the government to provide more funds to the educational institutions especially universities to improve the level of research in the country.

Naheed Khan said that price hike is a major issue for her as she cannot manage to run her house in the current situation. She said that the government should give more and more subsidy to utility items to provide relief to the citizens.

M Ali said that he did not attach any hope with the new government, saying that political parties made promises with the people during election campaign but they did not honor it. He asked the voters to closely watch the efficiency of the government and rejected them in the next elections if the political parties did not honor their promises.

Earlier, Shehbaz Sharif took oath as the 24th prime minister of Pakistan. Pakistan’s President Arif Alvi administered oath from Shehbaz Sharif. Shehbaz Sharif earlier served as prime minister of a PDM-led government from April 2022 to August 2023 before the national assembly was dissolved to hold general polls in February.

On Sunday, Shehbaz Sharif won a majority in the newly-elected lower house of the parliament amidst sloganeering by the opposition parties.  Shehbaz, the joint candidate of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and the PPP, received 201 votes in the 336-member of the assembly. His contestant Omar Ayub Khan of SIC took 92 votes.

Besides the PPP, Shehbaz Sharif was also backed by MQM-P, PML-Q, Balochistan Awami Party, Istehkam-e-Pakistan, the National Party and Pakistan Muslim League (Z).
