ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is scheduled to leave for his maiden official visit to Egypt on Monday.

The prime minister will take part in the United Nations Climate Change Conference for 2022 over the course of the two-day visit (November 7-8). The UNFCCC Conference of the parties is the name given to the gathering. COP27 refers to the fact that this year’s gathering, which is taking place in Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt, will be the 27th conference overall.

The COP27 announced last month that PM Shehbaz would assume the vice-presidency of the conference. Pakistan was given the distinction among the 195 United Nations member states as a result of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s persuasive advocacy for the urgent need for a climate action plan at international and regional forums.

President of Egypt Abdul Fattah Al-Sisi will preside over the conference. He extended an invitation to PM Shehbaz to co-chair the COP-27 roundtable discussion with the Norwegian prime minister. World leaders, think tanks, and the leaders of governments and international financial institutions will all be present at the conference.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif effectively advocated for immediate action on climate change following the recent floods at the 77th session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Council of Heads of State and Government in Samarkand.

Several nations had endorsed the prime minister’s call for international cooperation to address the problem of climate change.
