KARACHI: Pakistan Railways has introduced its longest freight train to date, representing a significant advancement in the country’s rail transportation sector. This freight train spans an impressive 2,500 feet and consists of 50 bogies, promising enhanced efficiency and capacity in cargo transportation.

Powered by the robust GEU 40 super engine, this record-breaking freight train commenced its maiden voyage from Karachi, loaded with over 3,000 tonnes of goods bound for Kotri. It achieved impressive speeds, reaching a top speed of 60 km/h and maintaining an average speed of 38 km/h.

The sheer size of this freight vehicle’s capacity is remarkable, capable of accommodating goods equivalent to that of more than 94 22-wheeler trucks. This not only improves cargo transportation efficiency but also reduces the strain on road traffic, ultimately contributing to the reduction of environmental pollution.

By utilizing Pakistan Railways’ extensive infrastructure, this innovative freight train highlights the potential of rail transportation as a sustainable and cost-effective solution for nationwide goods movement.
