ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Railways has initiated the renovation of five major railway stations countrywide, aiming to enhance passenger experiences and boost revenue generation.

An official from the Ministry of Railways highlighted the goal of transforming these railway stations into commercial hubs that support various business activities while ensuring passenger convenience.

The selected stations for this upgrade project include Karachi, Lahore, Faisalabad, Peshawar, and Quetta. This effort is part of broader initiatives to enhance Pakistan Railways’ performance and provide maximum amenities to the public.

The government has allocated Rs 50 million to the Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP) over the past three years to finance the renovation and modernization of railway stations throughout the country.

Approval for the refurbishment of these stations was granted by the Central Development Working Party (CDWP). Thus far, six railway stations have been upgraded in different regions, including Bahawalpur, Raiwind, Narowal, Okara, Sahiwal, and Gujranwala.

The primary objectives of these upgrades encompass passenger convenience, aesthetic improvements, and the modernization of railway stations.

Key enhancements include passenger waiting areas, prayer facilities, operational offices, water filtration systems, restroom facilities, passenger shelters, platforms, ticket counters, parking areas, and external development work.

These efforts aim to create a more pleasant and efficient railway station experience for passengers while promoting business activities within these stations. —APP
