Pakistan Reports Two More Fatalities as Dengue Infections Continue to Rise

ISLAMABAD: The provincial health authorities announced on Friday that one new death was reported from each of the two provinces of Sindh and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) in the northwest of the country.

The KP provincial health administration reported that 382 additional people had been diagnosed with the mosquito-borne disease. There are now 2,326 ongoing cases in the province, and 13,603 cases have been reported this year.

The Sindh provincial health department recorded 376 new infections on Friday night. Karachi, was the hardest hit and recorded 242 new cases. With the newly-reported dengue cases, the October figure to date for the province has risen to 4,593, bringing the total local tally to 14,747 this year.

The Eastern Punjab province recorded 302 new cases. Lahore reported 150 new cases, and Rawalpindi, with 61 cases. 10,427 cases of dengue fever have been reported in Punjab so far this year.

Health officials confirmed 106 new dengue cases in Islamabad, the nation’s capital, on Friday night. Total number of cases in Islamabad has increased to 3,621.

Joint pain, nausea, vomiting, rashes, respiratory issues, hemorrhaging, and organ failure can all occur in severe dengue cases.
