Pakistan, Turkmenistan to Sign Transit Trade Agreement Soon: Ambassador

ISLAMABAD: Ambassador of Turkmenistan to Pakistan, Atadjan Movlamov, on Monday said that significant progress had been made on the bilateral transit trade agreement between Pakistan and Turkmenistan.

During a meeting with a delegation of Pakistani businessmen, the ambassador announced that the working of the agreement had been finalized and it would be signed soon. The agreement holds great promise for bilateral cooperation, particularly in the energy sector.

Daru Khan Achakzai, the founder president of the Pak-Turkmenistan Joint Chamber of Commerce and Industry, expressed optimism about the agreement, stating that it will pave the way for new avenues of collaboration. He emphasized the potential for enhanced energy trade between the two countries and highlighted Turkmenistan’s vast gas reserves.

Turkmenistan Offered Cheaper Gas Supply to Pakistan

The ambassador further added that Turkmenistan has offered to supply cheaper gas to Pakistan, and the private sectors of both countries can play a leading role in promoting energy trade.

During the meeting, various important issues related to the bilateral trade were discussed, including LPG import from Turkmenistan, price mechanisms, transit fees, and the possibility of LPG imports through the Afghan route.

The ambassador extended an invitation to the delegation to participate in a business summit scheduled to be held in Turkmenistan on June 15, 2023.

The delegation emphasized the need for the government of Pakistan to cooperate with Central Asian states, particularly Turkmenistan, and provide necessary facilities for the promotion of trade. The delegation expressed gratitude to the Ambassador of Turkmenistan and was presented with commemorative shields as a token of appreciation.

The finalization of the Pakistan-Turkmenistan bilateral transit trade agreement is expected to boost trade and economic ties between the two nations, opening up new opportunities for mutual benefit and cooperation in various sectors, particularly energy.
