Pakistan, Uzbekistan Agree to Advance Uzbek-Afghan-Pak Railways Project

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan and Uzbekistan have reaffirmed their dedication to advancing the Uzbekistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan (UAP) Railways Project in collaboration with Afghanistan.
Uzbekistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan (UAP) Railways Project aimed to establish a crucial trade corridor, offering Central Asia access to sea routes through land transportation.
The trilateral cooperation seeks to strengthen regional connectivity and facilitate smoother trade exchanges across borders. Moreover, both countries have agreed to intensify collaboration in various sectors, including investment, joint industrial and agricultural development, and scientific research.
The visit of Uzbekistan’s Foreign Minister, Bakhtiyor Saidov, to Pakistan paved the way for productive discussions between the delegations. Federal Ministers for Commerce, Privatization and Communication, and Industries and Food Security held a significant meeting in Islamabad with Minister Saidov.

During the meeting, Minister Jam Kamal Khan extended a warm welcome to the Uzbekistani delegation, emphasizing the historical, cultural, and strategic ties between the two nations. Minister Saidov underscored Pakistan’s global significance and highlighted Uzbekistan’s potential as a gateway for Central Asian countries, complemented by Pakistan’s role as a gateway for South Asia.

Minister Rana Tanveer Hussain stressed the importance of translating memorandums of understanding into concrete agreements to drive bilateral cooperation forward, echoing Abdul Aleem Khan’s emphasis on proactive measures to boost trade and investment.

Progress toward the implementation of the UAP Railways Project was discussed, with Pakistan having acquired land for the initiative, indicating tangible advancement.
Moreover, the operationalization of the Pakistan-Uzbekistan Preferential Trade Agreement on March 13, 2023, was celebrated as a significant milestone in enhancing bilateral trade.

Visa issues and logistical challenges, including those related to organizing the Pakistan Single Country Exhibition and Logistics Forum in Uzbekistan, were also addressed during the meetings.
