Pakistan Witnesses Decline Of 55.50% in Car Sales

ISLAMABAD: Data released by the Pakistan Automobile Manufacturing Association (PAMA) reveals a significant downturn in the sale of cars during the first six months of the current financial year 2023-24.

The total number of cars sold during this period witnessed a sharp decline of 55.50% compared to the corresponding months in the previous year. According to the data, 30,662 cars were sold in the first half of the current fiscal year, down from 68,912 units sold during the same period in the previous fiscal year.

A detailed analysis of the data indicates a substantial drop in the sales of various car models. Sales of Honda Civic and City experienced a 55.76% decrease, with 3,938 units sold compared to 8,906 units in the corresponding period of the previous year. Similarly, Toyota Corolla and Yaris recorded a 56.24% decline in sales, dropping to 5,279 units from 12,065 units in the previous year.

Suzuki Swift witnessed the most significant decrease, with a 68.75% decline in sales, reducing from 7,136 units to 2,230 units during the first six months of the current fiscal year. Sales of Suzuki Alto also plummeted by 50.69%, dropping from 27,614 units to 13,614 units. Other models, including Suzuki Cultus, Suzuki WagonR, and Suzuki Bolan, also experienced notable declines in sales during this period.

The data reflects the challenges faced by the automotive industry in Pakistan, indicating a substantial contraction in consumer demand for cars during the initial months of the current fiscal year.
