Pakistani Government Earmarks Rs107,413m for Power Sector in Budget

ISLAMABAD: The government has allocated an amount of 107413.044 million rupees for various current and new schemes of the power sector under the Public Sector Development Programme for the next financial year.

As per the budgetary document issued on Friday, the government earmarked 81,774.431 million rupees from the local component and 25,638.613 million rupees from the foreign aid component.

Under the current schemes, a sum of 12,000 million rupees has been reserved for Installation of 2×600 Mega Watt coal-fired power project GENCO-One Jamshoro, 2,536.471 million rupees for interconnection of Makran Network, 1600 million rupees each for 220 Kilo Vatt Hairpur Substation, 220 Kilo Vatt Swabi Substation, 1200 million rupees for 500kV Allama Iqbal Industrial City , 1,059 million rupees for replacement of LT Bare conductor with ABC Cable in Peshawar Khyber Circle and Bannu Circle, 1,439 million rupees for 220/132 Kv GIS substation Dhabiji, 964 million rupees for electrification works at various valleys of District Chitral and 900 million rupees for 220 kV Quaid-e-Azam Apparel and Business Park.

Likewise, an amount of 13,800 million rupees has been reserved for evacuation of power from Kohala, Suki Kinari, Mahal HPPs, 5,667.094 million rupees for evacuation of power from 2160 Mega Watt Dasu stage-One, 16,099.255 million rupees for 500 kV HVDC Transmission System between Tajikistan and Pakistan. 3,904.500 million rupees for 500KV Lahore North, 2,324 million rupees for Upgradation of NTDC’s Telecommunication, 7,000 million rupees for augmentation of the 500kV and 220 kV grid stations, 3000 million rupees for power distribution enhancement investment programme-Two, 950 million rupees for evacuation of power from 1,224 Mega Watt wind power plants at Jhamir and others projects.

Government allocates budget for new projects

Under new power schemes, 2,658 million rupees has been earmarked for Land acquisition for the installation of a 1200 Mega Watt Solar Power Plant at Sher Garh in Layyah, 1133 million rupees for land acquisition for the installation of a 600 Mega Watt Solar Power Plant at Tehsil Athara Hazari in Jhang, 1900 million rupees for 500 KV Islamabad West, 1000 million rupees each for electricity distribution efficiency improvement projects in HESCO and MEPCO, 1300 million rupees for augmentation of 2×160 MVA transformers with 2×250 MVA Yousafwala, 639 million rupees for Installation of wide area monitoring system and 500 million rupees for 220kV Na Shah Grid Station in the PSDP for FY2023-24.
