BEIJING: In a remarkable achievement, Prof. Dr. Zeeshan Ali, the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering at Dawood University of Engineering and Technology, was honored at the UNIDO Global Call 2023 award ceremony.

This global competition, spearheaded by the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), was designed to seek out outstanding green energy solutions from across the globe. Dr. Ali’s groundbreaking work earned him the third prize in this prestigious competition, marking a significant recognition of his innovative efforts in renewable energy.

His project primarily focuses on enhancing the stability of wind power generation by incorporating an auxiliary system that enables wind production even when natural wind speeds are very low.

Dr. Ali drew an analogy with solar energy systems, explaining that they perform well during sunny days but become less efficient when cloudy. Similarly, wind energy faces challenges due to varying wind speeds throughout the year.

His innovation involves an auxiliary system that generates sufficient wind speed to rotate the wind turbine or rotor. This artificial wind source complements natural wind, ensuring a consistent wind energy supply, with capacities ranging from 300 to 1,000 watts.

The system has already been implemented in Karachi, and Dr. Ali’s goal is to draw the attention of global investors attending one of China’s largest international expos. He aims to see his Pakistani solution applied in more residential areas, hospitals, hotels, and other locations, contributing to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG).

Dr. Ali expressed his amazement at the constant stream of visitors at CIIE and acknowledged the opportunities the open market in China provides for startups like his to establish a foothold in the highly competitive business arena. —APP
