Pakistan’s Biggest Challenge is Combating Misinformation: Ahsan Iqbal

NAROWAL: Pakistan’s Minister for Planning, Development, and Special Initiatives, Ahsan Iqbal, emphasized the crucial role of every person, particularly the youth, in combating intolerance and misinformation in society. Addressing participants at the Peace, Education, and Development Conference held by the University of Narowal, he underscored that sustainable development hinges on peace.

Iqbal highlighted Pakistan’s significant challenge of misinformation, which undermines societal values and ethics. He stressed that peace is foundational to progress, noting that Islam’s core principle is peace. He lamented how intolerance and bigotry have tainted politics in the past, but praised those who have rejected such divisive elements through democratic means.

The minister urged a deeper understanding of Pakistan’s founding principles, emphasizing the need to protect minorities and their rights. He called for unity through the “Mera Pakistan Movement,” where each citizen contributes positively to the nation’s growth.

Reflecting on past personal challenges, Iqbal emphasized the triumph of positivity over hate. He urged vigilance against prejudice and disinformation, recognizing their threat to peace globally.

Looking ahead, Iqbal envisioned Pakistan among the world’s top economies by 2045, advocating for peace-building, policy continuity, and reform. He acknowledged the diverse contributions of Pakistanis, including the support of Christian communities during the nation’s inception.

The conference was graced by prominent figures including journalists, scholars, and political leaders, with Iqbal commending the University of Narowal for its successful organization.
