ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Minister for Commerce, Jam Kamal Khan on Monday said that the fresh approach of focusing solely on facilitation, recently adopted by the government has successfully built the confidence of investors and businessmen in its commitments, paving the way for a new era of economic growth and cooperation in the country.

Addressing a press conference on the sidelines of the two-day Pakistan-Saudi Arabia Investment Conference, Jam Kamal said that unlike in the past, the present government has limited its role to the facilitation and promotion of businesses to build a vigorous economy.

He further stated that the recent approach had already been impactful, with Saudi investors expressing trust and confidence in the government’s commitments.

Boosting Investor’s Confidence

The minister attributed this trust to the government’s tiring and consistent follow-through on its promises, demonstrated by the scores of meetings between Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif and the Saudi Crown Prince, Mohammed bin Salman Al Saud followed by engagements by the ministers from both the countries recently.

The recent efforts by the government led to the entry of around 100 foreign companies from various sectors, including food, energy, IT, construction etc, the minister said.

Jam Kamal appreciated the business community’s vital role in improving the country’s economic outlook and acknowledged the government’s commitment to creating a favourable environment for economic growth in the country. He said that the incumbent government has taken concrete measures, including reforms in taxation, energy, and tariff matters, to facilitate export-oriented companies and make the process of doing business easy.

Jam Kamal said that the ongoing conference marked the first stage of a multi-phase process, which would be followed by the concrete implementation of the commitments made at the conference. He hoped that the output of the conference would lead to the fruitful outcome of promoting businesses, services, employment opportunities, and most importantly, improving the overall quality of life for the public.
