The cabinet meeting, chaired by Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif, also approved an across-the-country public awareness drive about the conservation of power, gas, and water to sensitize the people to the importance and preservation of natural resources.

The meeting called for the inclusion of the discipline of best international practices on energy conservation in the educational curriculum.

The participants agreed that energy conservation efforts at all levels, including public, private, commercial, and domestic, would help reduce the petroleum products import bill, which has increased heavily in the last seven years.

The participants were of the view that behavioral changes would also save foreign exchange reserves worth billions of dollars and reduce the electricity bills of people by 30 to 40%.
