Pakistan’s Gold Imports Increase by 44.22% in 11 Months: PBS

ISLAMABAD: The gold imports of Pakistan went up by 44.22 percent during the past eleven months of the current fiscal year against the corresponding period of last year, reported by Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) reported on Wednesday.

According to the data, the imports of gold during July-May (2022-23) were witnessed as $27.377 million as compared to $18.983 million during July-May (2021-22).

In terms of quantity, 437 kilograms of gold has been imported into the country during the months under review against the imports of 302 kilograms last year, witnessing a growth of 44.70 percent.

Meanwhile, on a year-on-year (y-o-y) basis, imports of the precious metal into the country recorded an increase of 250.55 percent at $3.421 million in May 2023 against the imports of $0.976 million in May 2022.

PBS Report on Trade Deficit

It is worth noting here that the collective trade deficit witnessed a decline of 40.59 percent during the first eleven months of the current fiscal year against the corresponding period of last year.

The trade deficit during July-May (2022-23) was witnessed as $25.791 billion compared to the deficit of $43.409 billion in July- May (2021-22), with a decline of 40.59 percent.

The exports during the period were recorded at $25.366 billion compared to $28.871 billion last year, showing a decrease of 12.14 percent.
