OTTAWA: Pakistan’s High Commissioner in Canada, Zaheer A. Janjua, called upon the international community to intervene and halt India’s extensive human rights violations in Jammu and Kashmir.

He urged the global community to revoke the unilateral and illegal measures imposed by India and to implement the thirteen resolutions passed by the United Nations regarding the Kashmir issue.

High Commissioner Janjua made these remarks during the Kashmir Solidarity Day activities organized by the Pakistan High Commission in Ottawa and its consulates in Toronto, Vancouver, and Montreal. The event featured various programs, including pictorial exhibitions, seminars, documentary screenings, demonstrations, and media interactions, aiming to shed light on the human rights abuses in the Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu & Kashmir.

Janjua, inaugurating a photo exhibition, emphasized that Jammu and Kashmir remained one of the most militarized regions globally, with Kashmiris enduring relentless atrocities. He highlighted the brazenness of India’s actions, subjecting defenseless Kashmiris to ongoing oppression.

The High Commissioner drew attention to the annulment of Articles 35(A) and 370, stressing that it had intensified the complexities of the Kashmir dispute, plunging the region into perpetual turmoil. The move not only altered the independent status of Jammu and Kashmir but also exacerbated demographic disparities, particularly affecting Muslim-majority regions under Indian control.

Janjua underscored that the relentless suppression of dissent and blatant disregard for human rights not only sowed insecurity among Kashmiris but also contributed to a nefarious strategy aimed at achieving control and dominance. He criticized the Modi government’s actions as being ultra vires to its constitution, emphasizing that the endorsement of such illegal measures had no legal or political impact on the disputed status of Jammu and Kashmir.

The envoy reiterated the importance of UN Security Council resolutions 91 and 122, which explicitly declare that no unilateral step taken by any party to the dispute would constitute a final disposition of the State of Jammu and Kashmir.

The event included messages from the President and Prime Minister of Pakistan, along with documentaries and songs dedicated to the Kashmiris’ struggle, amplifying the call for global attention and action against the human rights violations in the region.
