LAHORE: Lahore High Court (LHC) has directed the respondents to submit arguments in the case concerning the suspension of social media platform X in Pakistan.

Justice Shahid Bilal Hassan of the LHC presided over the hearing of the miscellaneous plea filed by journalist Hafiz Shakir Mehmood against the suspension of X.

During the proceedings, the petitioner’s legal representative, advocate Azhar Siddique, presented arguments on behalf of the petitioner. The counsel highlighted that X has been suspended for the past two months, pointing out that the Interior Ministry directed the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) to suspend X in accordance with a notification dated February 17.

The counsel contended that the Interior Ministry lacked the jurisdiction to suspend the services of social media platform X.

Afterwards, the court requested a response from the opposition parties in the case, issuing notices to the respondents and setting a deadline for their submission by April 18.
