Pakistan’s Information Minister Confirms February 8 as General Election Date

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Federal Minister for Information, Broadcasting, and Parliamentary Affairs, Murtaza Solangi, reiterated that the country’s upcoming general elections are scheduled to take place on February 8, 2024, Radio Pakistan reported on Sunday.

While emphasizing the official announcement is pending from the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP), the minister urged the public and political stakeholders to await the official schedule and process details.

During a program on a private news channel, Minister Solangi informed that the Election Commission has allocated a 54-day period for political parties to conduct their election campaigns. He emphasized the importance of a fair and transparent electoral process.

Advocating for accountability, the minister underscored the need for a comprehensive examination of actions and decisions to ensure transparency and responsibility within the political landscape.

Information Minister Poses Trust in Judiciary

Responding to questions about the judiciary, Solangi expressed confidence in the courts’ ability to dispense justice and highlighted accountability as a fundamental element of good governance.

The discussion also covered the role of public broadcasters, with the minister endorsing necessary reforms and technological upgrades for institutions like Radio Pakistan and Pakistan Television. He clarified that there is no possibility of privatizing these entities, emphasizing their crucial role in serving the public.

Addressing international relations, Minister Solangi noted the improving ties between Pakistan and the United States under the current government. Additionally, the minister highlighted China as a strategic partner of Pakistan, expressing confidence in further strengthening bilateral ties.
