Pakistan’s PM, Ethiopia’s Deputy PM Discuss Bilateral Relations

ISLAMABAD: Ethiopia’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Demeke Mekonnen called on Pakistan’s Caretaker Prime Minister Anwar ul Haq Kakar on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos-Klosters in Switzerland.

Both leaders discussed mutual engagements at various levels, including the highest levels of respective governments, to further expand bilateral and multilateral cooperation.

By citing the fact that Ethiopia opened its Embassy in Islamabad recently, Demeke reiterated his country’s commitment to consolidate Ethiopia-Pakistan relations.

He said that Ethiopia will work towards diversifying its engagements with Pakistan, including investment and trade.

PM Kakar, on his part, said that by capitalizing on the positive momentum from the commitment of the governments of Pakistan and Ethiopia to boost ties, Islamabad will work to strengthen relations in the areas of trade, investment, skills transfer, as well as people-to-people contacts.

Ethiopia’s Embassy in Pakistan

The Embassy of Ethiopia in Pakistan was officially inaugurated on 11 May 2023, and Ambassador Jemal Beker is the first Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary in Islamabad.
