ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar said on Sunday that holding timely and fair elections is the top priority of the caretaker government so that the newly elected government can come into power and serve the nation.
In an interview with a private news channel, the prime minister expressed hope that elections would be free and fair.
The Election Commission of Pakistan has notified general elections on 8 February 2024.
As per the details, the ECP issued a notification of the date of the general election under Section 57 of the Election Act۔
The notification said that in light of the Supreme Court’s order, the polls will take place on 8 February 2024.
PM About Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Chief
During the interview, the prime minister also spoke about Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan and said that he is safe in prison.
The prime minister questioned why the caretaker government is being labeled as biased. He asked whether the caretaker government imprisoned Imran Khan.
PM Kakar said that the PTI chairman was arrested legally and is facing court cases against him. The PM said Imran Khan was arrested before the caretaker government took charge.
It is to be mentioned here that PTI Chairman Khan was arrested from his Lahore residence on 5 August after he was slapped with a 5-year disqualification and a 3-year prison term in the Toshakhana criminal case.
