ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Monday took serious notice of the countrywide power breakdown.

As per details in a statement issued by the Prime Minister’s office (PMO), PM Shehbaz has constituted a high-level committee to probe into the major power supply breakdown.

PM Shehbaz also sought an immediate report from the Federal Minister for Energy, Khurram Dastgir.

The Prime Minister inquired about the reason behind the power supply breakdown across the country and said he should be apprised as to why such a major electricity crisis took place in Pakistan.

The Prime Minister instructed the concerned authorities to seek out the power crisis and restore the electricity supply immediately.

Earlier, several parts of the country, including Islamabad, Karachi, Quetta, and Lahore, plunged into darkness as a high-tension electricity supply line between Guddu and Quetta caused a major power supply breakdown.

Power breakdown hit Pakistan

A power outage hit several country cities, including Quetta, Islamabad, Lahore, Multan, Karachi, Peshawar, and others, around 7:35 am.

The extreme shortfall in electricity generation is said to be a major cause of the power outage that hit various parts of the country.

Local media reported that power generation was lower than 7,000 megawatts this morning. Local media reported that hydel power generation in Pakistan had gone down to 90 percent, while thermal power generation is by 70 percent.
