ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s President Asif Ali Zardari on Saturday approved the appointments of Sardar Saleem Haider, Faisal Karim Kundi, and Jaffar Khan Mandokhail as governors of Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Balochistan, respectively.

The President’s Office issued a statement confirming that the appointments were made based on the advice of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, in accordance with Article 101(1) of the Constitution.

This decision follows PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari’s announcement, after careful consideration, of the nominations of Sardar Saleem Haider Khan and Faisal Karim Kundi for the governorships of Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Saleem Haider’s Background

Saleem Haider, a devoted member of the PPP, hails from Punjab’s Attock district and has previously served as a federal minister and aide to the Prime Minister for overseas Pakistanis during the previous tenure of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) government. He currently serves as the president of the PPP’s Rawalpindi division. Saleem will replace the incumbent Governor Baligh Ur Rehman, a senior leader of the ruling PML-N.

Faisal Karim Kundi

Faisal Karim Kundi currently holds the position of PPP’s central information secretary and is a member of the central executive committee and the foreign liaison committee. He previously served as the youngest deputy speaker of the National Assembly in the PPP government from 2008-2013.

Profile of Jaffar Khan Mandokhail

Jaffar Khan Mandokhail, born on December 26, 1956, in Quetta, has a long-standing political career. He entered politics through student politics in 1974 and has held various ministerial positions, including education, finance, and home affairs. Mandokhail contested elections under different party banners over the years and has contributed significantly to the political landscape of Balochistan.

It’s important to note that the ruling parties, PML-N and PPP, have agreed to form a coalition government at the Centre. As part of this agreement, the PPP will occupy various constitutional positions, including the governorships of Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, chief ministership of Balochistan along with the office of the president and the National Assembly’s deputy speakership.
