Pakistan’s President Calls for Accelerated Efforts to Provide Jobs to Differently-abled People

ISLAMABAD: President Dr. Arif Alvi highlighted the importance of increasing efforts to place people with disabilities (PWDs) in jobs in the public and private sectors in order to financially empower them.

The president, who was presiding over a meeting on the framework for the classification and severity of disability, said the suitability of PWDs for various jobs in the market should be determined in accordance with international standards, and they should be assisted in finding jobs for financial empowerment.

The conference was attended by senior officials from the Ministry of Human Rights, the Ministry of National Health Services Regulation and Coordination, NAVTTC, and NADRA, as well as a World Health Organization representative, Dr Maryam Malik.

President’s Remarks About DAPs

According to the president, prospective employers for the job placement of skilled Differently-Abled People (DAPs) should be identified, and large employers in the private sector should be approached in the first phase to accommodate DAPs based on their skill set.

He said that the representation of people with disabilities in the economic and industrial sectors should be expanded in order for them to be productive citizens of the country. The president stressed the need for national and provincial governments to implement the framework for disability classification developed in accordance with international standards and best practices.

He said the framework would aid in determining the severity of disability as well as the suitability of PWDs for market jobs. The president further called for the making of disability certificates in Urdu in order to make them more accessible and readable to the general population. He asked relevant stakeholders to enhance their collaboration with provinces in order to implement a standard system of classification and disability certificates across the country, which would greatly benefit PWDs.

President Alvi emphasized the importance of sharing DAP success stories in order to encourage and urge PWDs to achieve similar results. He asked the Ministry of Human Rights to step up its efforts to provide jobs for individuals with disabilities in both the public and private sectors.
