Pakistan’s Weekly Inflation Ups Nominally by 0.03%

ISLAMABAD: The weekly inflation, measured by the Sensitive Price Indicator, showed a nominal increase of 0.03% for the combined consumption group (CCG) during the week ended on 1 June, the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics reported on Friday.

According to the PBS data, the SPI for the week was recorded at 254.13 points in contrast to 254.05 points during the previous week.

As compared to the same week of last year, the SPI for the CCG in the week under review recorded an increase of 42.67%.

The SPI for the lowest consumption group up to 17,732 rupees, however, decreased by 0.06% and fell down to 260.57 points from the previous week’s 260.77 points, whereas it fell by 0.10% for the consumption group from 17,732-22,888 rupees.

The SPI for consumption groups from 22,889-29,517 rupees, 29,518-44,175 rupees, and above 44,175 rupees witnessed a rise of 0.08%, 0.12% and 0.05% respectively.

During the week, out of fifty-one items, rates of nineteen (37.25 per cent) items increased, 14 (27.45 per cent) items decreased, and 18 (35.30 per cent) goods remained stable.

The goods, which recorded a fall in their average rates on a week-on-week basis, included LPG (4.46 per cent), wheat flour (4.06 per cent), bananas (4.04 per cent), petrol (2.96 per cent), eggs (2.57 per cent), diesel (1.94 per cent), vegetable ghee 1 kg (1.87 per cent), mustard oil (1.57 per cent), cooking oil 5 litre (1.35 per cent), pulse moong (1.27 per cent) and vegetable ghee 2.5 kg (1.06 per cent).

The items that recorded a surge in their average rates on a week-on-week basis, included onions (7.31 per cent), potatoes (2.89 per cent), chicken (2.87 per cent), tea prepared (1.56 per cent), tomatoes (1.11 per cent), salt powdered (1.08 per cent), rice Irri-6/9 (1.00 per cent) and beef (1.00 per cent).

Inflation on YoY basis

The goods that witnessed a decrease in rate on a Year-on-Year basis included tomatoes (42.14 per cent) and onions (29.00 per cent).

On a year-on-year basis, the items which recorded a surge in their average rates included cigarettes (138.50 per cent), tea packets (114.93 per cent), gas charges for q1 (108.38 per cent), wheat flour (105.56 per cent), bananas (88.96 per cent), potatoes (86.86 per cent), rice irri-6/9 (80.97 per cent), rice Basmati broken (80.15 per cent), pulse moong (60.40 per cent), bread (59.66 per cent), eggs (55.29 per cent), pulse mash (53.70 per cent), washing soap (48.61 per cent), petrol (45.55 per cent) and diesel (45.18 per cent).
