Pakistan’s Wheat Stocks Recorded at 5.614m tons

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s wheat stocks have been recorded at over 5.614 million tons – sufficient enough to manage local consumption as well as maintain the strategic reserves until the next crops arrive.

The carry forward reserves of grains during current week were recorded at over 1.831 million tons as the government procured about 6.614 million tons in the last procurement season to meet the domestic requirements of staple gains as well as maintain the strategic reserves, according to an official in the Ministry of National Food Security and Research.

He said that the government has so far imported about 863,314 metric tons of wheat in order to meet local demand and ensure a smooth supply alongside maintaining price stability in domestic markets.

The total availability of grains during the season was recorded at 9.308 million tons and so far the government has released 4.711 million tons of wheat to provide the local markets with floor and , he added.

Meanwhile, the private sector acquired about 3,921,762 metric tons of wheat from the farmers, adding that out of the total procured commodity, 3,018,622 metric tons grinded, said the senior official adding that the private sector wheat stocks were recorded at 903,140 metric tons.

He said that the wheat sowing was in full swing across the country, with grain sowing completed in more than 50.85 percent of areas against the set goasl of the current season.

So far the wheat cultivation has been completed over 11.62 million acres of land across the wheat-producing areas in the country as the sowing targets of the crop Rabi 2022-23 was fixed at 22.86 million acres in order to fulfill both the domestic needs as well as export targets. – APP
